Rory McIlroy feels he is ready for leadership role at Ryder Cup
The current PGA Champion, Rory McIlroy feels that age will not be a factor at the Ryder Cup and he can play a leader’s part at Illinois.
Rory is the youngest member of the team but the Northern Irishman feels that he has enough experience to take up a leader’s role. He was part of the 2010 Ryder Cup team that defeated USA two years ago.
McIlroy is four years younger than Martin Kaymer, the next youngest member in the team. The two-time major winner rose to the number one spot after his victory at Kiawah and is quite confident about his Ryder Cup chances.
"I know there are a lot of older guys than me that are going to be on the European team, but I feel like I'm in a position where I'd be one of the leaders of that team and if I feel strongly about something, I'll voice that," McIlroy said.
The man from Belfast is always keen to share his opinion and views about the things happening around. McIlroy is one of the very nicest guys around the tour and he gets along with people very well, this definitely plays to his advantage.
"I think the big thing about the Ryder Cup is you have to be a good team member," said McIlroy. "You can't be afraid to voice your opinion. If you really feel strongly about something in the team room, you've got to stand up and speak".
Rory has a golden opportunity to hit his peak stride before the Ryder Cup. Next up, he plays at the Deutsche Bank Open. The golf course is considered to be a bombers’ paradise.
The world number one has an opportunity to register a victory here. He is ranked sixth in the driving distance, his average is 310-yards.
McIlroy is guaranteed a place in the next two playoff events but he wants to remain inside to top five to keep the destiny in his own hands.
He has been hitting the ball very swiftly lately and the par five’s at TPC Boston provide good birdie opportunities. Last time Rory played in Boston was in 2010, when he opened with a brilliant seven under 64.
