Rory McIlroy finds his game at the U.S. PGA Championship
The most awaited major of the year is in full swing. The elite players of the world have gathered at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Ocean Course for the prestigious U.S PGA Championship 2012. The event teed off on the 9th of August and by
12th the fans will have their new champion.
This is going to be a very exciting tournament, as the players go head to head for glory. This course is already considered to be very tough and it has been forecasted that the weather conditions will be very unfriendly for the players.
This would prove to be a challenge for the players. In the major, fans are expecting a great deal from the players.
One of the players who has been under the spotlight for the tournament is the world’s number 3 in the official golf ranking, Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy started off as the new golf sensation, he quickly made his way to the top. Unfortunately for the youngster, he has not been playing well in the last few tournaments. This bad form led to some criticism on the young Irish player.
This is a perfect opportunity for McIlroy to answer his critics once and for all. The youngster took the opportunity and gave a splendid performance on the first day at the Kiawah Island.
McIlroy had a bit of a slow start. He just had two birdies on the front nine, on the second and sixth hole. His back nine was even better than his front nine.
He teed off the back nine with a birdie on the first hole and later on, carded two more, on the fourteenth and sixteenth hole.
These made his total score for the day five-under par. McIlroy was on the tied second spot with three other players. After the first day, the Irishman was just one stroke behind the leader of the round, Carl Pettersson.
Pettersson had a magnificent round and ended the first day with six-under par. There are still three days left in the tournament. McIlroy will have to very consistent about his game to actually prove himself.
