Rory McIlroy grouped with Angel Cabrera and Bubba Watson for the Masters’ first round – Golf News
Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy has yet again been grouped with Argentine Angel Cabrera in the opening round of the Masters Tournament, scheduled to start on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
Cabrera is the same person who witnessed McIlroy falter in the final round of the Masters last year, to hand over his first major victory to Charl Schwartzel.
Bubba Watson will be another person to join the group on Thursday at the Augusta National. The group will tee off at 1.42pm Eastern time.
According to McIlroy, it was the worst ever performance of his career. Therefore, he is now looking ahead to take the revenge for his defeat last year.
He is no doubt the hot favourite for a win in the Masters this year because of his recent performances on the PGA as well as on the European Tour.
The Englishman Lee Westwood is also aiming at earning his first victory in the major championship this year with a win in the Masters Tournament. He is partnered with Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk.
While talking about the grouping, he said that it is not the grouping that matters, in fact, it is the time of the day that matters.
According to him, the changes in the weather can benefit or detriment any player in the tournament.
The ultimate goal of a player is to lead the field rather than competing within the group. Therefore, he does not care much about the players who are being staged in his group for the first major event of the year.
"Occasionally certain sections of the draw are helped by the weather or hindered by the weather, but I don't think who you're playing with has any effect," Westwood said.
"It's a small field and the course stands up well to the play. So it's fair from start to finish".
The world number one, Luke Donald, is another great player who is looking to record his first major victory. He is partnered with Nick Watney and Francesco Molinari.
Luke Donald said that he was enjoying his best form in the current season while he participated in the Transitions Championship and recorded a win.
Afterwards, he took two weeks off prior to entering the field of the Augusta National.
Therefore, he is among the players who will tee off with high morale because of the victories they earned in their respective last tournaments.
Tiger Woods will play alongside Bae Sang-Moon, who is making his debut in the Masters, and Miguel Angel Jiménez.
