Rory McIlroy has different plans for the Masters
Rory McIlroy has different plans for the Masters, despite focusing on the other players, he will only be looking at his own performance.
The 22-year-old Northern Irish professional golf player is the current number 2, in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is excited to be in the field of the Masters, scheduled from April 5 to 8.
All the players are heading to the Augusta National Golf Club to play the first major of the year.
The top ranked golfers are hoping to display some massive strokes and have plans to compete against the others.
On the other hand, the young Irishman has a different strategy for the tournament. He does not want to be distracted by other players or his rivals.
He plans only to focus on his own game, rather than looking at the other players’ performances on different holes.
"One of the worst things I did was just trying to stay ahead of everyone else," McIlroy said. "Instead, I maybe should've had a number in my head, like getting to 15-under. That way, you have a target, and that's all you're thinking about"
He added, "You're not thinking about Charl [Schwartzel] making eagle on three, and you're not thinking of Tiger [Woods]. You're not thinking about all these guys you're trying to keep ahead of.
“All you're thinking about is that target of 15-under, and that's something that I've learned from and something I've tried to put into practice since”.
The strategy to only focus on the scores, rather than players, is impressive. Hence, all the followers, fans and spectators of McIlroy will experience a new game from him at Augusta.
However, there are many other players in the field that are top ranked and have more experience than McIlroy.
Their enormous scoring and appealing strokes will definitely be making hurdles for him.
Presence of the players like Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker and Martin Kaymer are making the field tougher and more competitive.
Their past scores are also impressive. They will again be scoring high on the leaderboard. Hence, McIlroy plans are good and up to the mark.
However, at the same time, he should display extra efforts on the course, so that his lead can be confirmed.
