Rory McIlroy hires guards to protect his home from trespassers
US Open winner, Rory McIlroy has hired private security guards to protect his house, after several fans were found trespassing on his property. The number of such incidents saw a huge increase after McIlroy’s US Open win at Congressional
Golf Club last month.
“I've had security guards at my house every night since I won the US Open, just patrolling around the area. There have been people driving up the driveway and stuff like that which is not very nice. It is something that I just had to put in place,
I am afraid. It is tough but it is just the world we live in unfortunately. If you are in the position we are in, you are so public. It's something I am just going to have to deal with,” said McIlroy in an interview.
He added that he never had problems with fans walking to him in a restaurant or during leisure hours. But people trying to trespass his property was worrying.
McIlroy has been facing these issues back at home, which is why he has decided to join the PGA Tour next year so that he can be on the move, so to speak.
The rookie spoke his heart out while commenting on his childhood dream and his present, which brought stardom and personal issues along. He said that when he was a kid, all he knew was that being a professional would mean playing in front of huge crowds
and would earn him trophies. He did not see the dark side of being a winner.
McIlroy did admit that it was a mixed bag and with stardom and fame, came its share of problems for all the athletes in the world. The player has now decided to take measures to divert any such incident, and is planning to leave his hometown for a
while.
Carefully gauging his options, the player has decided to make America his home for next year, as he believes that he will be able to get some privacy there. In addition to that, his game compliments the weather and course conditions prevalent in the region.
