Rory McIlroy holds nerve to seal his third title of the year at TPC Boston

Rory McIlroy is in sizzling hot form. He clinched his fifth title of the PGA Tour and his third of the year. This is his second victory in three starts he has made. McIlroy had to hold his nerve on more than one occasion to win the Deutsche Bank Open by
one stroke on the Labour Day.
The world number one started the final round three shots behind Louis Oosthuizen. However, a spree of birdies put enough pressure on the South African to crumble in the heat of battle. Louis eventually finished at the second place, one stroke behind the
man from County Down.
"Going out with a three-shot deficit. I just wanted to get off to a good solid start and maybe put Louis under a little bit of pressure".
Tiger Woods shot a stunning round of 66, which was better than Rory’s 67 and Oosthuizen’s 71 but it was not good enough to land in his fourth title of the year.
"Today was great," McIlroy said. "I am delighted to get this win, delighted to go to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup, because it sets me up for a great next couple of weeks”.
Six birdies from the Irishman on Monday meant that the South African needed to make the 12-foot putter at the 18th to force a playoff. Oosthuizen however missed the putt with the slightest of margin.
"You could hear all the commentators in the crowd saying what the putt is doing, so after putting that aside and just reading the putt properly, standing over it, I wanted to hit more than I read," the South African said.
Victory at the TPC Boston means that Northern Irishman is now guaranteed a place at the season ending championship in Atlanta. A victory there would not only earn him the FedEx Cup but also a purse of $10 Million.
Woods may have had one of the best rounds but he never really threatened leaders although he went bogey less on Labour Day.
A lone third place finish meant that the fourteen time major champion took home a cheque of $544,000. This means that his earnings have now surpassed over $100 Million.
This is quite a stunning feat from the former world number one, who has seen ups and downs throughout his career.
