Rory McIlroy hopes to post a victory at the latest Korean Open – Golf news
Irish trailblazing golfer, Rory McIlroy is all set for the Korea Open starting this week at the Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in the South Korean city of Cheonan. He hopes to break his three-month winless streak at the upcoming event.
The 22-year-old McIlroy has not won a single title since his overwhelming victory at the US Open (at Congressional Country Club), in June. He has posted some strong finishes in the proceeding events but has not been able to bag a title on either side of
the Atlantic.
He said, “I haven't had another win since winning the US Open but I have been knocking on the door. I was very pleased with how I played last week, especially after the shaky start.”
The Irishman has come out to be one of the major forces on the golfing arena and has challenged many celebrated veterans of the sport to clinch titles. His winning spree at Congressional with a record breaking lead stirred many among the sports circle to
consider him a potent threat in future events. McIlroy has done well to prove them right.
He failed to impress the audience at the Open Championship played at Royal St. George’s later, but came back to post a joint third at the Omega European Masters. He pulled a remarkable runner-up performance in last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship,
trailing the leader, Michael Hoey by one shot. Coming into the final round with an overnight deficit of five shots, McIlroy pulled in consecutive birdies and an eagle on the front nine to level Hoey’s lead before making the turn, but could not outshine Hoey
on the back nine.
This is not the first time McIlroy has decided to step on Korean turf for an event. He finished third at the 2009 episode of the event, and felt an immediate liking for Asian courses.
McIlroy added, “I really enjoyed myself two years ago when I came to Korea and I played well and could have won, but I finished third. Because of that I took the opportunity to come back and try and win an event that I have come close at before.”
The young Irishman is currently on a whirlwind tour around the world and will be playing nine events in eleven weeks across the globe. He will be heading for the China Golf Challenge right after the Korean Open, and will then fly-off to Bermuda for another
event.
Some of the top ranking players will be participating in the Korean Open including Ian Poulter, Y.E Yang and Rickie Fowler. The event is set to attract huge crowds on the weekend, ensuring a thrilling golf contest for Koreans.
