Rory McIlroy hopes to rediscover form at Irish Open – Golf news
Rory McIlroy is planning to make use of home support this week when he tees off at the Irish Open, scheduled to be staged at the Carton House Golf Club in Co. Kildare, Republic of Ireland.
For the last few months, the 23-year-old has not been able to show his class that allowed him to bag two major golf championship titles and the number one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
He now wishes to rediscover his form at his home event, where he believes that the local fans always provide him with huge support, which can play a key role in boosting his morale.
“It's much better having fans for you and really wanting you to do well than people rooting against you, so it's a great privilege to have,” he said. “The best thing that I can do this week is go out and enjoy myself, smile and show everyone how much I appreciate
their support.”
“That's what I've tried to do the last couple of years, just try to embrace the whole week and enjoy it. You don't get a chance to come back here very often and play, so it's nice to be able to do it and enjoy it while you do it,” he added.
Last year, he became the second and the youngest player in the history of the game to win money list titles on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour in a single season.
The same year also witnessed him becoming the youngest player after Tiger Woods to surge to the top of the world rankings. However, he lost the world number one spot to Woods early this year and has not been able to put on a challenge in any of the event
he has played so far in this season.
According to the golf commentators, McIlroy certainly has the potential to bounce back this week, considering his last year’s performance at the same event – he finished tied for the 10th position in the 2012 edition of the tournament.
He only has to focus on his natural game and bring some consistency in his performances in order to post a decent score after four rounds.
