Rory McIlroy hopes to shine at the U.S Open, he is determined and he wants his number one spot back!
Rory McIlroy hopes to get back in his old shoes as he eyes the Muirfield Village to overcome his bad form. In the hopes of winning the U.S Open title, former World number one is emphasizing on hard work and precision.
McIlroy has missed two consecutive cuts and has lost his World number one spot to Luke Donald, the current World number one. Donald also won the BMW PGA Championship last week to ensure his global domination as the World’s number golfer and successfully
defended last year’s win.
McIlroy, on the other hand, has been in bad shape. His rivalry with Donald died when the World number one spot was snatched away from him in the BMW PGA Championship.
The former World number one still has a hint of hope. We saw the same situation last year when he missed cut and later on won his first PGA Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship.
It is somewhat similar to last year’s situation, yet this time McIlroy has missed not just one, but two cuts. This can add to the pain of his future championship hopes.
The U.S Open is where the hope resides for the former number one. He is focused on reaching there by performing exceptionally well in the pre-tournament rounds.
“I just want to get some competitive rounds in. I'm working on a few things, and I feel trying to put them into competition will be the best way for me to prepare going into the U.S. Open,” said McIlroy.
His progress this week was satisfactory. His play had more precision and the amount of practice he did making his game better was visible.
“I'd love to be able to get it in good shape after this week and come out of this week after working hard and say, you know what, I've really made progress this week, let's try and make a little bit more next week in Memphis and feel really good and ready
for the U.S. Open” said a confident McIlroy.
Times may be a little hard on the former World number one, yet, it is definitely not the end of the world, as a good comeback and the right amount of focus may lead the young golfer to retain his position as number one.
