Rory McIlroy loses golf clubs after the Masters
After losing the Masters due to an awful last round performance, Rory McIlroy seems to continue with his losing streak. This time however, the Norther Irishman lost his golf clubs. The player arrived in Malaysia for the Maybank Malaysian Open, which is the
next stop on the European Tour.
The 21-year-old disclosed the bad news in a press conference on Wednesday. He said, “It hasn't happened often, it’s one of these things you can't help it, going through so many time zones and so many connecting flights your bags are going to get lost sometimes.
Hopefully they turn up tonight and I'll be ready to go tomorrow.”
The young rookie seemed calm despite facing the storm last Sunday at the Augusta National, where he led the field for three consecutive rounds, but faltered as soon as he stepped into the final holes. The Northern Irishman could not stay foot in front of
the pressure that mounted up and compelled the player to play some of his worst golf ever. He wrapped the day with an 80 and occupied the 15th spot of the leader board and that too in a tie.
Charl Schwartzel took McIlroy’s place and walked to the winner’s podium to wear the Green Jacket. The South African was also present in the conference in which McIlroy revealed that his bad luck had chased him all the way to Malaysia.
Schwartzel talked to the press to respond to the warm statement, which was given for me by the rookie. McIlroy said earlier that he had known the winner since a long time and that he deserved the victory, as he played outstanding on the final day.
In response to this statement Schwartzel said, “All the respect to Rory, he seems fine. Rory is just such a good guy, he seemed to get over things very quickly. He seems to get over it and he's by far a good enough player. He's going to win lots of majors,
lots of them.”
In addition to that, he added that the two of them had been talking during the flight to Malaysia, in which Schwartzel gave advice to the young lad not to lose hope.
Schwartzel and McIlroy will meet once again at the European Tour event, where McIlroy will get a chance to settle the score with the South African.
