Rory McIlroy needs Tiger Woods at the US Masters
Rory McIlroy was the first to express sadness for Tiger Woods, when the latter sustained an injury during his game-play at the Cadillac Championship last week in Florida.
The 36-year-old American professional golf player was playing a tremendous game when he suddenly had to withdraw from the World Golf Championship staged event.
The reason was that he was suffering from an Achilles Heel injury. He walked off the course and is now on a lay-off time period.
His injury can become a hurdle for him to perform well and there is also a chance that his swing and driving might also get affected.
Three years earlier as well, he sustained a knee injury and lost all hopes on the golf course.
Hence, due to the Achilles Heel injury, Woods might not be playing the upcoming tournament of the Arnold Palmer Invitational and his appearance in the Masters Tournament is also not yet confirmed.
If he does not recover at a fast pace, then he might not be able to make it to the majors, which is scheduled in April.
If he misses the first mega tournament of the year, then the field of the Masters will be relatively less competitive and less appealing too.
McIlroy, a 22-year-old Northern Irish professional and the current world no. 1 is concerned about the health of the American and was also the first player to express his sadness over the news.
"It's a shame because he looked like he was coming out this year, swinging it really well, playing good and getting himself into contention," McIlroy said.
He continued, "It’s probably just precautionary, but I really hope he is healthy for the Masters because obviously it would be a great week with him there. He can spark an interest in golf that no one else can".
McIlroy wants Tiger Woods back on the course before the Masters Tournament. The reason is simple, the Northern Irishman loves to compete against the world’s hottest and the most favourite golf player.
"I'd love to have a lot of battles with him coming down the stretch and it would be great to be able to do that at Augusta, obviously if he's healthy by then and plays well and I can get myself into that position again," McIlroy added.
The Master Tournament is scheduled from April 5 to 8, only three weeks from now. Hence, Woods' presence at Augusta is at risk.
His injury needs time to heal. However, he is confident to be back on the golf course soon.
