Rory McIlroy no longer World number one, bad swings or over-confidence?
Rory McIlroy is facing trouble in his game once again. The World number one had a second consecutive miss at the BMW PGA Championship last week following his poor performance.
His bad performance has been equated with his bad swing. The same issue caused the great Tiger Woods to miss numerous cuts last year. Woods even hired a swing guru to overcome the bad swing but failed to do so.
McIlroy is the latest victim of bad swing techniques. His current form speaks for it and former golf legend and analyst, Brandel Chamblee gave a clear picture of the reasons behind McIlroy’s poor form.
He criticised the swing and bad foot work that has accompanied McIlroy this season, costing him numerous PGA Tours.
Chamblee pointed out the unnecessary weight that McIlroy puts on his back heel that may cause an imbalanced play.
“Watch the inside part of his right foot, the sole of the shoe comes off the ground. His foot is actually buckling to the outside. That makes it very difficult to get into the shot”, said Chamblee.
Bad swings often cost a little too much in the game of golf. Woods is the primary example in this case. After he switched to an orthodox style of swinging, his game suffered tremendously and he accepted the fact that his swinging habits have been the cause
of his poor form.
In April, Woods concluded that his bad form is because of his bad swinging habits.
“I hit some of the worst golf swings I've ever hit today, same old motor patterns. Now I'm struggling with it all the way around with all the clubs. I need to go do some work”, said Woods last month.
McIlroy requires in depth analysis of his swings and requires an urgent switch to a technique that involves less pressure on his right foot.
On the other hand, he is continuously missing cuts and has already lost the number one spot in the golf rankings.
His over-confidence has also been a part of his down fall. A few weeks ago, he bragged about him being the best in the world of golf.
Later on, he made early exits in two major golf events.
Rory McIlroy is a gifted player. His swing problem needs an urgent solution otherwise he will slide down the rankings in no time. Let us hope McIlroy does not land in Woods's shoes due to his bad swings.
