Rory McIlroy optimistic about his performance in the Irish Open
The world number two Rory McIlroy is aiming to get back in form, when he will tee off at the European Tour’s Irish Open, at the Royal Portrush on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
McIlroy has faced the hardest times of his career in the past few weeks that witnessed him miss the cuts in four of the five events that he played.
In addition to that, he also has dropped down to 8.89 points in the Official World Golf Rankings. This means that he has a difference of 1.07 points compared to the world number one, Luke Donald (9.96).
Therefore, he can now avail the chance of returning to his form in front of his home fans who are desperately waiting for him to take the number one spot once again.
Usually, McIlory plays on the PGA Tour’s AT&T National at the Congressional Country Club each year as part of his schedule. However, he preferred to be in his home country this year, in order to give a boost to the local event.
McIlroy is now happy with his decision and believes that he is once again ready to challenge his opponents on the course, as he has improved considerably, following his slumping performance in the US Open.
"I feel like I've made a lot of progress and I'm really looking forward to this week and hopefully giving myself a chance to win here," McIlory said. "I'm feeling good and had some really good practice over the last 10 days and my game feels in really good
shape".
During the practice round on Tuesday, a huge crowd was set around the players, watching them display their skills.
According to McIlroy, such a turnout was something more than normal on a European Tour event.
"(Tuesday's turnout) wouldn't be normal on a European tour, a major you would expect it but it's fantastic to see so many people out here," said McIlroy.
By and large, it is now essential for McIlroy to bounce back strongly in Ireland. Otherwise, the pressure of losing can spoil McIlroy’s season that started on a very high note.
