Rory McIlroy pitched with a tough schedule ahead – Golf news
US Open champion, Rory McIlroy, is all set for a whirlwind count down to the current season and while critics are predicting a possible burn-out with the busy schedule ahead, McIlroy’s management insists that the he will be able to cope with the hectic schedule.
Chubby Chandler, the owner of the International Sports Management (ISM), the company that manages McIlroy, defended the decision taken by the management in wake of the Irishman’s stellar performances in the recent past.
Chandler said, “No, there's no concern of Rory suffering burn-out simply because he's not playing golf for the lengthy period he's going to be away from home. He's purposely scheduled a fortnight's holiday halfway through the run of events.”
The 22-year-Irishman, who lifted the US Open trophy with a record breaking lead of eight shots, has pulled in some strong finishes following his victory at the Congressional Country Club in June. He finished for a joint third at the Omega European Masters
and for an outright second at last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. McIlroy defied all reasoning by golf critics that the Irishman has a tendency to succumb to difficult links golf, looking at the way he stumbled at the Open Championship
at St. George’s in July.
McIlroy will be playing nine events in the next 11 weeks starting off this week with the Kolon Korea Open in Seoul. He is accompanied in the field by Y.E Yang, Rickie Fowler and Kim Kyung-tae. He will then shuttle off to China for the China Golf Challenge
where he would be pitched against Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Chinese number one, Liang Wen-chong. The young Irishman will than barge into the Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda before making a stop in Turkey to meet his girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki.
McIlroy will than tee-off for the Shanghai Masters and HSBC Champions at Sheshan before finally heading off for a two-week rest. Chandler, who also manages Darren Clarke and Louis Oosthuizen, insists that what McIlroy is undertaking is no different to what
many of the other renowned players have done in the season.
Chandler added, “However, what Rory is undertaking is really no different to what happens throughout the year because in managing players like Lee and Rory they are getting invitations to play all over the place.”
Chandler also said that McIlroy has done an amazing job in the year although he has only played nine events on the PGA Tour and as many on the European Tour. He also said that both the tours do not have any overlapping events in the year so the company and
the player do not anticipate any problems with the schedule ahead.
