Rory McIlroy plays tennis in New York with Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy celebrated his victory in the Honda Classic and top world ranking on a tennis court with Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova in New York.
The 22-year-old Northern Irishman displayed an amazing performance in the Floridian tournament of the Honda Classic. He won the title and defeated Tiger Woods by two strokes.
He reached New York on Monday and made a surprise visit to the Madison Square Garden. He received a huge round of applause and appreciation for achieving the top position in the world rankings.
Later, his girlfriend, Wozniacki, handed a racket to him and he played against the Russian tennis star, Sharapova. He enjoyed playing tennis with his girlfriend’s pal.
"Never thought I'd play tennis at Madison square garden!! Had a great time," McIlroy tweeted. "I even won a point!"
After entertaining the tennis crowd, he returned to the Doral Miami on Tuesday. He is in the field of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship and will be playing his first event as the world No. 1 golfer.
The increased number of fans and high respect is making him nervous. The spectators' expectations have gone up and he is feeling a little anxious about the upcoming tournament.
"I've never been so nervous in my life," McIlroy said in a press conference on Tuesday at Doral.
He continued, "I can hit a golf shot in front of a million people but getting up there, I wanted to hit a serve but I was thinking, 'If I frame this into the crowd it's going to look so bad'".
McIlroy will be facing Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Hunter Mahan in Doral Miami. There are also many other players in the field, desiring to be the winners.
The Northern Irishman is in full confidence and will be teeing off to maintain his top position.
He has high plans for the current season. He just got started and also has many other tournaments, including the majors, in the list to be achieved.
"My dad always said to me, 'If you're good enough, you're old enough,'" McIlroy said.
Now, he has to make extra efforts on different courses. This is the only way that he can fulfil his winning desires and maintain his leading position.
