Rory McIlroy receives thrashing from Jack Nicklaus, the “Golden Bear” emphasised preparation!
Rory McIlroy visited the legendary Jack Nicklaus for expert advice after his miserable three missed cuts. The former World number one has been in poor form and things are looking pretty bad for him in regard to his participation at the U.S Open.
Nicklaus has ruled the game of golf and is undeniably the best the world has ever seen. When he talks, one has to listen.
McIlroy has been out of touch and has been unprepared throughout the last three tournaments. The reason could be anything, yet, his form has suffered tremendously.
Therefore, he realised that it is time to take advice from the greatest golfer in the world, Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus has helped the former World number one Tiger Woods and as a result, the world saw Woods regaining his magic by winning the Memorial Tournament in the most amazing manner. Who can forget the final round birdie Woods pulled off that stunned the fans
all over the globe?
Nicklaus advised McIlroy to be well prepared before any tournament that he is participating in. He blamed lack of focus and no preparation for the former number one’s fall.
“My wife has always had a statement, which is: 'There is no excuse for not being prepared,” said Nicklaus emphasizing the importance of a well prepared effort.
The 72-year-old legend was bold enough to admit that his bad times had the same reason as McIlroy’s, lack of preparation and practice.
“I know that there were times when I wasn't prepared and I got exactly what I deserved – nothing,” said a straight forward Nicklaus thrashing McIlroy.
McIlroy on the other hand, seemed pleased with the legend’s advice and accepted his weaknesses. He accepted losing his focus and now eyes the U.S Open for a better and positive result.
“I know Jack always went to the tournament's venue a week before and spent four or five days there to prepare. I think the reason that he won many more majors than anyone else was because he prepared more than anyone else,” said McIlroy.
Only time will tell how practically McIlroy has taken an expert advice from the “Golden Bear”. On the other hand, Tiger Woods took it the right way and has regained his lost form.
As far as McIlroy is concerned, he just needs to focus on the right things.
