Rory McIlroy rejects the idea that he intimidates Tiger Woods
The world number one Rory McIlroy laughed out when he was asked to comment on Greg Norman’s views of Tiger Woods being intimidated by the Northern Irishman.
While taking to the FoxSports.com, earlier this week, the Australian made a statement that no one in the world has ever intimidated Woods as McIlroy is doing these days.
"What I'm seeing is that Tiger's really intimidated by Rory," Norman said. "When have you ever seen him intimidated by another player? Never”.
"But I think he knows his time's up and that's normal; these things tend to go in 15-year cycles. Jack (Nicklaus) took it (the baton) from Arnold (Palmer). I took it from Jack, Tiger from me and now it looks like Rory's taking it from Tiger,” he added.
McIlroy is currently preparing to participate in the final leg of the PGA Tour Playoffs, the Tour Championship.
When he came to know about the ‘Tiger’s intimidation’ talk, he simply replied by saying that he can never threaten a player who is the biggest name in the world of golf.
"How could some little 23-year-old from Northern Ireland with a few wins come up and intimidate him. It's just not possible. I don't know where he got that from, but it's not true,” he said.
In the meantime, Woods also rejected the idea that he gets threatened by any player in the world.
While talking to the Reuters.com, he explained that the sport of golf allows the players to focus on their own game, rather than caring about others’ performances.
McIlroy has won a total of four PGA Tour events this year, including a win in the PGA Championship – his second major victory.
Moreover, he currently leads the FedEx Cup standings, heading into the Tour Championship, which makes him the hottest player on the PGA Tour this year.
On the other hand, Tiger Woods also holds a great track record this season, as he added three PGA Tour titles so far, to his resume, in 2012.
However, his four-year winless streak in the majors sometimes raises questions about his ability of being the best player in the world, in the current times.
