Rory McIlroy says he is least intimidated with a resurging Tiger Woods at the Masters
The field is all set to lock horns for Golf’s most respected title, The Masters at Augusta National, Georgia.
There will be 50 top ranked players from all over the world and another contingent of qualifiers who will be tee-ing off tomorrow, Thursday, April 5.
While many would be hoping to post a strong finish, the top ranked players of the likes of Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and many others feel seriously threatened by the resurrection of Tiger Woods.
Woods has landed the title for no fewer than four times in his grizzled career. Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, however, insists that he is least intimidated by the goliath of the sport.
On a question of whether he feels threatened by the fact that bookies have already recommended Woods as the best bet, McIlroy replied,
"To be honest, I couldn’t care less about who the bookies make favourite. It’s great for the tournament and it’s great for the game of golf that Tiger is back playing well".
He added, "He creates excitement that no-one else in the game can. A lot of people want to see him make history and he looks like he’s back on track to maybe doing that".
Woods and McIlroy are probably the two hottest contenders for the coveted title and the bookies have regarded them as the best bets so far.
Also in contention, is the current world number one Luke Donald, who is an expert in short game, something that comes in handy at the tricky greens of Augusta.
After his sad fall in his last bid in the event, McIlroy insists that his short game has improved considerably and will utilise it at the greens at Augusta.
He added, “I think putting has been a big change, I feel like there’s a lot more feel in my stroke and it’s something that I’ve worked on with Dave Stockton pretty hard”.
Meanwhile, Woods is also in top form after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational after a gruesome lapse of 30 months and will be hoping to revive his major count down to 18 major titles this week.
