Rory McIlroy set to defend the US Open title
The world number two Rory McIlroy is set to defend the US Open title at the Olympic Club, scheduled to start from Thursday, June 14, 2012.
Since his victory last year, McIlroy has become one of the hottest sensations in the world of golf. In early 2012, he also became the world number one player but he lost the position to Luke Donald later on.
The only problem that the golf fans have witnessed regarding his performance was that he did not perform well in any of the major events since his victory in the US Open last year.
This year, he participated in the Masters Tournament and tied for the 40th position on the leaderboard.
Apart from that, he also missed three consecutive cuts prior to his top-10 finish in the FedEx St. Jude Classic last week.
Therefore, the golf commentators believe that consistency is the major issue that McIlroy is currently facing in the early stages of his career.
When he is playing good, he is a huge threat for each of his opponents on the course. On the other hand, when he is off, he is nothing more than just an ordinary golfer in the world.
"I'm still trying to find a balance between being a top-class golfer and handling media commitments, sponsors' commitments, trying to have a life outside of all that, just trying to balance everything," McIlroy told reporters at a news conference, earlier
this month.
"It's something that it's hard to do all of them all at the same time. It's something that I'm still figuring out how to do. But I've got a good team around me, and we're trying to figure that out at the minute," he added.
Early in the 2012 season, he looked in great form and finished as the runner-up in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, followed by a win in the Honda Classic that earned him a top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time.
He also finished third in the WGC- Cadillac Championship before things started to get worse for him.
He then appeared in the Masters, followed by some bad times. Yet, he managed to make a little comeback, tying for the seventh place at the TPC Southwind.
According to him, he is pretty much back in form and ready to defend the US Open title successfully.
