Rory McIlroy speaks high of golf facilities at Abu Dhabi – Golf News
The world number two and US Open Champion, Rory McIlroy, has expressed his satisfaction over the availability of the state-of-the-art facilities and the player-friendly environment at the Abu Dhabi golf course.
He said that by successfully organising the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, the city has a chance of becoming the world’s hot spot for the game of golf in the near future.
According to McIlroy, the event has gained so much popularity in the past few years and is expected to become one of the favourite destinations for the players all over the world.
This year saw a number of top-ranked players confirming and participating in the event.
Tiger Woods, who always prefers to open his season with Volvo Golf Champions, started his 2012 golf campaign with Abu Dhabi, which speaks of its success.
He was talking to the media, backing the comments made by Dannii Minogue, a brand ambassador for Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways, who claimed Abu Dhabi to be one of the fun-loving places across the world.
She said that people do know about Dubai but Abu Dhabi has all what it takes to be an interesting place to spend time.
“You can definitely see Abu Dhabi evolve every time you come back, with places like Yas Island and Saadiyat,” said McIlroy, who finished second at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
“At first I played Saadiyat a couple of years ago and was very impressed with it and actually went to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of last year, which was an amazing weekend,” he continued.
“You can see the city is still developing, but it's definitely going to become one of the major attractions in the world in the years to come,” he added.
As the Abu Dhabi Championship is progressing each year with an increase in the participation of top-ranked players, the local tourism industry will get a boost and see a huge number of golf fans visiting the area.
The Abu Dhabi’s government already plans to invest billions of dollars in the tourism industry in order to diversify its economy from oil.
Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates, saw a maximum number of hotel bookings and revenues generated in 2011.
It is now expected to increase with the years to come and events like Abu Dhabi Championship will play a key role in attracting tourists from all over the world.
