Rory McIlroy still has everything to play for
Rory McIlroy is the man in form and people have started comparing him with the likes of Tiger Woods after his two consecutive victories in the playoffs.
It may be too early to compare him with a legend like Tiger Woods but one thing for sure is that he is guaranteed the title of the player of the year. However, the FedEx Cup is not guaranteed yet, as there is still much at stake at the Tour Championship.
Rory is on a roll on the PGA Tour. His victory at the BMW Championship was his second consecutive victory and third in four starts that he has made.
After his two victories in the playoffs, first at the Deutsche Bank and second on the BMW Championship, people thought “there goes the FedEx Cup to Belfast”, but not anymore.
Last year, there was a change in the rule and the points were to be reset after the BMW Championship. This now means that anybody in the top 30 taking the field at the Tour Championship can win the FedEx Cup.
This rule helps the top five players especially, as anybody among them can win the FedEx Cup, as well as the £7.15m pot with a victory at Tour Championship.
Bill Haas was at 25th going into the Tour Championship last year. His victory and some other favourable results meant that he took home the FedEx Cup as well as the £7.15m purse.
It seems a little unfair with Rory - the fact that he has played some outstanding golf in the playoffs and he clearly deserves the FedEx Cup.
However, a victory either for Woods, Snedeker, Mickelson and Watney would mean that they take home the title.
Graeme McDowell failed to make it inside the top thirty after his disappointing finish at the BMW Championship.
It will not be easy for McIlroy, as everybody in the top five will give their best for a first place finish at the Tour Championship.
"I'm making the right decisions out there and everything is really just going to plan at the minute," McIlroy said.
Rory is extremely happy with his performance and he will be staying in New York, relaxing for a few days before the Tour Championship starts.
