Rory McIlroy suggests Donald Trump to renovate Doral
World number one Rory McIlroy has finally decided to call the shots to claim the rightful place of world number one and has now called on the real estate tycoon, Donald Trump, to stiffen-up the sloppy Doral.
Trump has just completed the purchase of the renowned course after whirlwind sessions of consultations and will officially take possession of the same in the month of June this year.
Venue of last week’s WGC Cadillac Championship, the Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort and Spa proved comparatively easier for the field and the players ended with a huge pile of scores over the weekend.
McIlroy called the course “outdated” and suggested that the new owner should barge on to renovate the same in accordance with the modern designs.
He said, "It's a resort golf course. It was a tough test 15 years ago but now it's just got outdated".
He added, "They definitely need to do something with it and it's great to see that Trump is taking over the place and he is going to do a good job with it, I am sure".
Trump, who owns several sprawling courses all over the world, is on a buying spree of high profile courses all over the world.
He is currently engaged in building the world’s biggest golf course in Ireland and the course will be ready shortly this year.
McIlroy surged to the number one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) with his victory in the Honda Classic at the start of the this month.
He later surged to the top of the money list on the European Tour as well and is currently enjoying the status of being one of the best golfers in the world.
He is also the second youngest player in the world to surge to the top after Tiger Woods and the only Northern Irishman to win the accolade.
Justin Rose, winner of the WGC Cadillac Championship, also called for the much-needed renovations of the course and said:
"Obviously the greens are somewhat flat. I think that is why there are a lot of putts made on this course. I think someone told me a stat today, I don't know how they measure the stat but its the easiest putting course that we play. So that's why the scores are low".
Long-hitting Bubba Watson, who clinched lead once during the weekend, held different views and said that the course was quite challenging.
He further asserted that when all the players in the field are playing good golf, naturally someone will shoot low.
Reportedly Trump has hired the Olympic 2016 course designer Gil Hanse to renovate the Doral after the deal is finalised between the Trump and the current owners.
Hanse recently won the contract to design the golf course in Rio de Janeiro, venue of the Olympics in 2016. Golf is returning to the ancient games after a lapse of almost 100 years.
