Rory McIlroy to be absent from BBC Sports Personality Awards 2012
Rory McIlroy has declared his absence from the BBC Sports Personality Awards that are going to be held on the 16th of December.
The Northern Irish Professional golfer said that, due to some commitments, he will not be able to mark his presence in the awards.
The world number 1 golfer spoke about his nomination and said, “It is a real honour to be nominated two years in a row”.
He added, “With it being an Olympic year, and with so many outstanding achievements in British sport in 2012, the voting is sure to go right down to the wire”.
The Olympics took place this year. There were many athletes that came in the limelight. All athletes on the nomination list of the BBC Sports Personality Awards are Olympians except for Rory McIlroy.
The Scottish tennis player, Andy Murray also made in on the nomination list. He won the US Open recently with an epic battle in the final with Novak Djokovic.
The Scottish player said that he will not be able to be a part of the BBC Sports Personality Awards either, as he has to prepare for the upcoming Australian Open.
McIlroy is currently on a vacation in the United States with his star girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki.
The Northern Irish professional golfer has had a very successful year. He is currently leading the money list on the Professional Golf Association Tour as well as the European Tour.
The 23-year-old, McIlroy, recently won the DP World Tour Championship, where he beat the Englishman, Justin Rose, with a 2-shot lead.
The lucrative championship held in Dubai came to a very tight finish as the Englishman, Rose, played one of the best rounds of golf with a 10-under par score.
As the new season of golf is about to start, in early days of the year 2013, McIlroy will be busy practicing to maintain the same form that won him numerous titles this year.
The BBC Sports Personality of the year 2012 includes twelve athletes who have been nominated for the award. Most of the athletes who have been included on the list are because of their extraordinary performances in the Olympics that were held this year.
