Rory McIlroy vows to make a roaring start in Abu Dhabi, paired alongside Tiger Woods and Luke Donald
Northern Irish prodigy, Rory McIlroy has vowed to make a blistering start to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and has said that he feels at the peak of his form and fitness.
He was talking to the press after his practice round at the scenic Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Wednesday and said that he was excited to be paired with two of the top golfers in the world.
He will be playing alongside former world number one Tiger Woods and current world number one Luke Donald.
McIlroy said, "It's a golf course that I feel suits me. Maybe doesn't suit me as well as it does Martin Kaymer, but I'm getting there”.
Referring to a suggestion of putting in a slow and calculated start of the season, he replied,
"It's definitely not a quiet way to start the year. You're playing with two of the best golfers in the world in the first two days and you're up against one of the strongest fields probably that will be assembled this year”.
McIlroy is coming out of what can be referred to as a “dream year” in any golfer’s textbook and won several titles in the gleaming stretch, including a wire-to-wire victory at the US Open at Congressional.
He fought until the last event on the European Tour, at the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.
He wanted to overtake Donald for the money leader on Race to Dubai points table, but succumbed to dreadful Dengue Fever.
He has recovered in time to start off his season with one of the most sought after title on the tour.
McIlroy added, "I definitely wasn't feeling my best the last couple of weeks of the season. I actually stayed out in Dubai for ten days afterwards”.
The young Irishman also supported Woods comeback in mainstream sport, throwing himself in contention every now and then and said that it is a good omen for the sport in general.
The field at this year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is being touted as one of the strongest ever compiled on the Middle Eastern turf and while some of the top ranked players are evenly poised for the moment, the event is all set to provide nail-biting play over the weekend.
