Rory McIlroy wants to be more consistent in 2011
Rory McIlory, the 21-year-old golfer out of Northern Ireland, enters this week’s season-ending Dubai World Championship in the 12th spot on the money list and out of contention for the
top spot. He feels he can do better next year.
Speaking to the media in Dubai, McIlroy said consistency will be his focus in 2011. "I think there's been, as I said, parts of the season have been very good. I've swung it really well.
In the summer at the French Open, Akron and the PGA, I played some of my best golf and swung it really well. There's been points in the season like during the FedExCup where I haven't
quite had it. So, yeah, I'm just looking for a bit more consistency next year."
The young fan-favourite began the year ranked number-nine in the world and, with one event left to play, is currently number-10. While he won the Quail Hollow Championship on the PGA Tour
in May, McIlroy is yet to win on the European Tour this year despite many high finishes.
Last year, McIlroy entered Dubai leading the money list, thanks to a win and 14 top-10 finishes in 2009, but eventually ceded the top spot to Lee Westwood. This year, he cannot claim the
number-one spot but he still wants to end the year on a positive note.
"There is still a lot to play for, but obviously it's not the edge of having a chance to win the money list. Obviously, it would be nice to finish the season on a high note with a win
or something like that."
This season, McIlroy has eight top-10 finishes so far, including third place finishes at both the British Open and the PGA Championship. And even though he only missed two cuts all year,
he thinks he can do better. "This year, I think I started ninth in the world and am currently 10th so in that way it has not been spectacular. I've been working on a few things the past few weeks and if I can keep working on those through December and January
hopefully I'll come out for the 2011 season ready to go."
