Rory McIlroy working hard on his driving technique - Golf News
After missing more than 50 percent of the fairways at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, the US Champion, Rory McIlroy, is now looking forward to improving his driving technique prior to the Dubai Desert Classic next week.
At the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, he was about to register his first win of the season, when he missed it with a single stroke deficit against the winner, Robert Rock.
Overall, he was outstanding on the course with his shots and his putting technique was especially appreciated by many.
However, the only problem was his performance off the tee, where he struggled most of the time in the event.
He previously announced that he would miss the Qatar Masters in the first week of February, as he preferred Omega Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, scheduled from February 9 to 12, 2012.
This is the same event where he clinched his first ever professional victory on the European Tour in 2009.
“Yeah, really looking forward to a course I've done well at before and great memories,” McIlroy said.
“Looking forward to getting another week's worth of practise and coming out and trying to challenge for that title and my first title of the year,” he added.
McIlroy is now thought to be a hot favourite to win the event this year, as he is coming off to a great season, especially from a superb start in Abu Dhabi.
He just needs to focus on his driving technique and try to practice on hitting as many fairways as he can.
This way, he can turn many pars into birdies which will help him at the end of final round of any tournament he plays.
“(I will) work on still the same things that I was working on coming into (last) week, a little bit of posture, trying to get the club in the right position on the way back,” he explained.
He went on, “(In Abu Dhabi) I improved off the tee every day. (On Sunday) I didn't miss a fairway until the 11th I think, and that was a big improvement and something I still have to work on”.
After competing in the Dubai Desert Classic, he is aiming for the WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship, scheduled at the Ritz-Carlton GC, Dove Mountain, Marana, Arizona, USA, from February 22 to 26, 2012.
