Rory Pitman, Ospreys’ young utility back row, loaned to Glasgow Warriors for six months – Rugby news
Welsh Rugby Union professional rugby club, Ospreys, has confirmed the release of their young back row Rory Pitman on loan to Glasgow Warriors for six months.
Glasgow Warriors are a Scottish Rugby Union professional senior rugby club and compete alongside the Ospreys in the Magners League. The move comes as part of the Warriors move to develop their squad for the next season.
Ospreys announced the departure of Pitman in a statement on the club’s website on May 25.
The 21-year-old Pitman is a utility back row forward player. His favourite position is number eight, however he has also played at blindside flanker position. Bridgend born Pitman is Bridgend RFC product and has already represented the Wales national rugby
union team at U16, U18 and the U20 level. His performance and skills brought him to the Ospreys development academy.
Last season, Pitman, made 25 appearances for the Swansea RFC and scored 25 points, with all points coming from tries.
Ospreys Chief Operations Officer, Andrew h**e, has extended his best wishes to Pitman on departure to the Warriors. He expects that playing for the Warriors will help Pitman to mature and develop both “on and off the field.”
h**e further added, “This is a fantastic opportunity for a young man to move away and learn valuable life skills that will have a positive effect on both his personality and his game for when he returns home.”
Rory Pitman is 1.96m tall and weighs 110kg and has previously played in New Zealand. He will join the Glasgow Warriors squad during the coming month after he is done tying up loose ends at the Ospreys.
Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, has expressed his immense pleasure on acquiring the services of the youngster.  Commenting on Pitman’s attributes and skills, He said, “He's a big, ball-carrying back-rower and I'm delighted to have another talented player
to add to our options in that area of the team.”
Sean confirmed that Pitman is initially on a six-month loan-deal and his performance both on and off the field will play a part in his extension at the club. He said, “Rory's deal is for six months - I look forward to seeing him contribute positively in
that period and we'll then assess our options.”
Commenting on the loan deal, Pitman has expressed his delight at being included in the Warriors squad and he will work hard to secure a regular place in the team.
Pitman praised the Warriors coaching staff and their facilities. He said, “The coaches have been very positive about what they think I can bring, and I was excited by what I saw when I came for a look around the training facilities at Scotstoun and heard
Sean's passion for the club.”
In 2010/11 season, Warriors acquired the services of Tom Ryder on loan and later offered him a regular contract with the side. Pitman might be looking at a similar situation to develop after his loan period is finished.
