Rory Sabbatini and Tiger Woods finish low in the first round at the Honda Classic
Rory Sabbatini, the defending champion, and the famous Tiger Woods failed to secure a place in the top-10, as they scored low in the first round of the Honda Classic in Florida.
Sabbatini, a 35-year-old South African professional, was confident before the tournament to lead the scoreboard, but he faced tough rivals on the course and was unable to make impressive scores.
He finished the day by scoring a 1-under 69 and was tied for the 29th position on the leaderboard. He scored a total of five impressive birdies, but his four devastating bogeys dragged him down.
Sabbatini had expected better scores, but facing challenging rivals was not an easy task for him.
“I can't just continue to try and get around the golf course and try and escape," Sabbatini said before the Honda Classic. "We have to try and improve the whole situation".
In the last year, he was the hottest player of the field, however, he displayed an average performance in the current season.
He has played six tournaments since January and missed the cut in three sorrowfully. His best finish of the year was at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, where he secured the ninth position.
Similarly, Tiger Woods also faced troubles while scoring in the first round. He is seven strokes behind the leading position. He scored a 1-over 71 and failed to finish the round under or at par.
Scoring four unimpressive bogeys and only three birdies became the reason for his poor position, 68th. Now he will have to strive to make the cut, as he is at the bottom line of the leaderboard.
The 36-year-old American famous golfer is playing the Honda Classic after 19 years and will enter into the second round on Friday.
If he manages to display some good strokes, he can qualify for the third round. Otherwise he will be missing the cut.
The Honda Classic is in progress at the amazing Floridian site of the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens.
Sabbatini and Woods have to improve their performance. They are left with ample chances to score and if they do, they will definitely make it to the third round.
