Rosdie Ghani to serve as physical trainer of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong
After of the poor performance of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, the sports governing body has replaced the existing physical trainer Behrad Honer with National Sports Institute's Rosdie Ghani. The new trainer will start this additional duty from today to prepare both shuttlers for the Olympic Games.
Behrad Honer, the previous physical trainer of Kien Keat and Boon Heong will not serve the duo anymore. The decision was taken by reviewing the performance of Rosdie, who has been serving as the physical trainer of Lee Chong Wei for more than six years.
Now Rosdie will improve the physical fitness of World Number Six players Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who have lost their confidence resulting from a series of defeats from the hands of lower ranked opponents for the last two years.
Behrad has been attached with Kien Keat and Boon Heong for the last two years but failed to improve their fitness to the level of Men’s Doubles top players from Korea, Indonesia, China and Denmark.
Rosdie has replaced Behrad and his main responsibility will be to prepare and implement physical training programme for the top pair while Sean Sturgess will take care of other shuttlers in the Men’s Doubles national squad.
Dr. Ramlan Abdul Aziz, the director general NSI, supported this move as according to him it will be beneficial for players who have been facing a prolonged bad patch that has taken almost two years so far.
He said, "It is not something new as I wanted to make a change after the World Championships last year but decided to allow Honer to continue after a request from the coach (Pang Cheh Chang) but the performance of Kien Keat-Boon Heong in the Malaysia Open was bad enough to make a change necessary."
While talking about results of this move, Aziz said that we do not expect the shuttlers to regain their peak form like old days but we certainly want them to come close to their prime form, which is essential to compete against the top pairs in the arena of badminton.
He said, "We are not saying that they will regain their form of old but they can come close to satisfying levels and surprise their rivals as the Olympics draws closer."
Kien Keat and Boon Heong will start their physical training with Rosdie from today and are expected to improve their fitness before Olympic Games.
