After the opening T20 match of the Rose Bowl series between New Zealand women and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 women was washed out due to rain, the tourists won the second match by four wickets to lead the series by 1-0. While chasing 123 to win at Saxton Oval, Nelson on
Thursday December 30th, Australia had to wait till the final over of the match to win the thriller with four balls to spare and four wickets still intact.
An overall batting performance from the Australian line-up well complimented the efforts of their bowling attack as the hosts were restricted to a not much convincing 20-overs total of 122 for 9 from their allotted quota of overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shelley-Nitschke-c89961
off Ellyse Perry at six. Her dismissal took Suzie Bates to the crease who could share a limited partnership of just 12 runs with the skipper Watkins before she lost her wicket for a run out. Bates after clipping to square leg, set off for a quick run and was
sent back by the skipper but was not quick enough to beat the throw back in time.
In-walked Sara McGlashan to join Tsukigawa’s opening partner and a flurry of sweetly timed boundaries struck by the duo eased the nerves of hosts but the excitement was short lived as the fluent opener nicked Nitschke to Healy behind the stumps leaving the
side 62 for 3 on the board. Watkins scored 39 runs from 35 balls with the help of six well-timed four.
Watkins was soon followed back by Perry, Browne and Satterthwaite as New Zealand faltered at 82 for 6. The last seven batsmen of the New Zealand batting line-up could add only 60 runs to the scorecard with the bulk coming from Sarah McGlashan who holed out
in the 19th over just two runs short of her well deserved half-century. Debutant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarah-Coyte-c88762 claimed two wickets and was involved in two runouts as well as the hosts were restricted to below-par 122 for 9.
In reply, Australia Women went off to a solid start, despite losing opener Lanning quite early, and reached 38 for 1 inside six overs. All-rounder Nitschke became the second victim after she was runout in the sixth over at 17. After Nitschke’s dismissal,
the tourists lost wickets at regular intervals and at 79 for six, the New Zealand women seemed to be well in form to defend their paltry total. But Alyssa Healy and Coyte sealed the deal in Australia’s favour with an unbeaten partnership of 44 runs. Healy
top scored with an unbeaten 28 while Coyte remained not out at 14.
