Rose To Gold to choose Florida as her path to the Kentucky Oaks
The Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess Stakes winner, Rose To Gold will be hunting for more glory in her sophomore season, as trainer Sal Santoro is planning to put her on the Kentucky Oaks trail next year, and will primarily use the Florida path to Churchill Downs.
Based at Calder, the juvenile filly by Friends Lake will race all winter at Gulfstream Park, and it is yet to be decided by her connections whether the filly will start her 2013 campaign before the Grade 2, $250,000 Davona Dale Stakes or not, which is scheduled to go underway on 23 February, 2013.
“I think were looking at the Davona Dale and the Gulfstream Oaks, and if everything goes good, the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs,” said Santoro.
Sal Santoro, who trains Kentucky bred filly for owners Kathleen Amaya and Raffaele Centofanti further went on to say, “If we she feel she needs a race we’ll take a good look at the Gulfstream condition book and see what’s there.”
Had Sal Santoro not experimented with Rose To Gold by sending her out to run in the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes, which is run over Keeneland’s synthetic surface, there was a fair chance Rose To Gold had remained undefeated as a juvenile, because out of four career starts she has run on dirt thrice, with a perfect 3-for-3.
Rose To Gold started her career at Calder race course and won her debut race, Lindsay Frolic Stakes, over 1 mile, and then went on to win another stakes race called the Brave Raj Stakes on 15 September, which was run over a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards.
First time out of Calder, Rose To Gold went to Keeneland to participate in the Alcibiades Stakes to earn grade 1 honours, but sadly it wasn’t to be, as the filly finished an uncharacteristic 12th over the Polytrack on 5 October, 2012, won by Spring in the Air, as Broken Spell and Magical Moon finished second and third, respectively.
According to Santoro, Rose To Gold emerged fine from the 1 mile Delta Downs Princess Stakes, where she earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 80.
