Question:

Rose and Jack from Titanic?

I was just wondering if Rose and Jack were actual people. Also, if they weren't real, then did anything similar happen on the Titanic to people that just had different names? I've been wondering this for a while. Thanks!

  1. The Titanic was an ocean liner owned by the White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland. April 14, 1912, during her maiden voyage, Titanic struck an iceberg, and sank two hours and forty minutes later. 1517 people died, but 706 others survived the accident. It has been the subject of a number of books and movies - based on a real event. James Cameron's version was another fictional account of a true story.

  2. No the characters themselves were made up, however the scene where that old couple decide to stay together (instead of the wife getting on a life boat) because she says she's been with him for x amount of years and will not leave him now, and then they go lie down in their bed and just wait....that part is true....sad and beatiful =']

  3. They are fictional characters. I think the whole love plot was made up as well. The nearest real person to share a name with one of the characters was a Mr. Joseph Dawson, from Ireland. He perished in the sinking of the real Titanic. His grave bears the name 'J. Dawson', leading many people to think that there was a real Jack Dawson, as portrayed in the film.

  4. The incident was "true".  The characters Jack and Rose played were "fictional".   What happened to them was very much a true event to those that actually did drown.  And while no one knows what conversations those people had with their loved ones before they drowned (like Jack and Rose had while Jack slowly froze to death in the water), it would be feasible to presume there were "similar" conversations like theirs that were spoken in their final moments together.

It was a great movie, huh?!

  5. Rose and Jack were invented for the movie. However their story was based on actual events between a steerage passenger and a lady. Google it for more info :-)

  6. its just a made up story for entertainment to make money.... im sure something like that happened. they just tried to dress titanic up a lil

  7. No, they were created specifically for the movie. While real people who were actually on the Titanic did appear in the movie, it's two main characters had to be invented as the events surrounding them aboard the ship could not be proven to have actually occured.

  8. No, They weren't....Although, I've heard that they based the two on a couple who were eloping, that were on the titanic.

  9. Jack Dawson was a real person. He is buried in Halifax.  You can see his headstone on the web.

  10. No, they are completely made up characters, that somehow convinced women everywhere that the terrible tragedy of all those people freezing and drowning was romantic.

  11. Yeah they're real people. The movie is based on a true story. I think they're both dead now, though.

  12. completely fictional, although I heard there was a guy called Jack whatever his name is on board and that titanic fans go to his grave to place flowers on it every year lol

  13. no...they just did a story about the titanic accident...but put a storyline to it about jack and rose.

  14. I understand that they are fictional characters. I suspect that something like that may have happened, but it would not have been easy with the strict separation of classes at that time.

    Hope that helps.

  15. From what i heard they werent real the titanic was real odviously but they just put a storyline into the titianic history.

  16. The name Jack Dawson is real but Rose isnt.

I was watching on a documentry make by the BBC I think, and they went and visited Jack Dawson's grave (he died when the Titanic sank)

  17. Yerr it relli happened :O true story, they were real people but i dnt think there alive aymore :S

    xx

  18. No, they weren't, hun! They are only fiction characters from the movie. It could be a Rose and a Jack as passangers of the Titanic, but as lovers? no.

  19. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH

this is why I hate it when real events become the backdrop for hollywood...

NO JACK AND ROSE WERE NOT REAL PEOPLE.....

There was a Jack on board , by the same name BUT IT WAS PURE COINCIDENCE and they didn't find out about it Until after the movie was in production........

SOME of the characters were actual portrayals of REAL PEOPLE ( such as the character played by the actor that plays Victor in the Young and the Restless .. AND the Unsinkable Molly Brown)

But Jack and Rose , as the characters DID NOT EXIST .. they were FICTIONAL.
