The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078 president has blasted the city’s mayor over his comments that the state of Catalonia might have to make avdecision regarding joining Ligue 1, or staying with Spanish La Liga.
FCB President, Sandro Rosell, has voiced his distress over the the comments that were made by the city’s mayor, regarding the club whom he stated can play in the French Ligue 1, provided that Catalonia is declared as an independent nation.
Following the riots and protest in the Spanish state of Catalonia, there has been a growing support for separatist parties who seek to establish an independent nation from their current rulers.
Xavier Trias, the mayor of Barcelona, was asked a question regarding the future of the football clubs such as Barcelona, who also play in the Spanish Primera Division. The mayor replied saying:
“We do not have the possibility of a competitive league.”
He further explained that:
"We would have very few teams, and Barcelona will need to join another league. That could be the French or the Spanish one."
Upon hearing such comments by the mayor of the city, Rosell could not help to voice his concern regarding the future of football of Catalonia. The President finds it unbelieveable for a club like Barcelona, who has traditions and history with the Spanish
La Liga to move to a different league all of a sudden.
Rosell stated:
“There is no tradition, no rivalry with French football. To me, what the Barcelona mayor said is unbelievable.”
The state has close linkages with the cultures of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, and for that reason the mayor believed that the club should be given the choice to play for any one of the two top divisions, keeping the club’s successful history in mind.
The FCB President said that for the people of Catalonia, Barcelona is not just a club, but is a true representation of the culture, traditions and beliefs of the people. Rosell also highlighted the degree of resemblance that the national team of Catalonia
have in their playing style.
Barca has won 21 La Liga titles, 26 Copa del Reys, 10 Supercopa de Espana and a total of 4 Champions League titles in their 112 history, while playing in the top tier of Spanish football.
