  1. i'm not a pro at the gardening thing but some plants need to have so much root vs above the soil plant. sometimes if you cut the bush back the next season it will bloom

  2. Roses are surface rooting plants, meaning they can dry out or benefit from regular watering. They can also be heavy feeders, so ensure your soil is supplemented for them.

Good siting and after care pay dividends with heavy flowering.  Some varieties are also heavier flowering and repeat better than others, as well as are bred to resist common diseases such as fungal problems - black spot, rust etc.  If you have given your rose a good site, according to type - bush, shrub, climber etc, with high levels of sunlight, as well as fed and watered it well, as well as a hard prune in early spring - if it is a bush type, then it should be doing well after 2 years.

Id recommend adding a mulch to your rose, using something like well rotted animal manure or compost, which will help keep the roots moist as well as release nutrients for its growth. You could add a slow release fertiliser first too, to nudge it along.

Potassium is the mineral needed for plant's flowers, so supplementing with Potassium sulphate will encourage flowering. Too much Nitrogen will produce lots of green growth, Phosphorus will encourage root growth.

Also check that your above ground growth is not sprouted from roots, which produce growth known as runners - these usually have more leaflets and can be lighter green in colour too. Rose roots are wilder rose types, onto which the bred variety has been grafted - almost certainly these days. Pull off any runners, below ground level - cutting them encourages further growth.

Overall, water, mulch, prune appropriately, and supplement. As well as remove runners. If the rose is in too dark a position, remove during the dormant period from autumn to early spring time.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

  3. Over fertilizing can cause all leaf and no bloom.

  4. Roses need at least 6 hours of sun or more per day preferabley 8.  If your roses don't receive enough light they will not bloom.  If you think they are getting enough light then try giving them a shot of fertilizer with a high phosphorus content or spread a cup of bonemeal around them. Either of these will stimulate blooming.

  5. When you planted it did you clip back all the steams about 1-2 inches?  That can usually helps with producing buds.  It's not to late to clip and you might get some buds.
