Rosewall on Tomic: “He is only 20 so let's hope that he will learn from his mistakes” – Tennis News
Former Australian top-ranked player, Ken Rosewall, has put a lid on the criticism against the 20-year-old Aussie star, Bernard Tomic. He believes that the 51st ranked youngster will bounce back to live up to the expectations
of the supporters and probably fly back amongst the top-ranked players in the world. It has been a dismal season so far for the rising Aussie superstar who witnessed a major slump in his form; driving him out of the Top-50 category from his career-high ranking
of world number 27 in June.
Talking to AAP, Rosewall said, “He is only 20 so let's hope that he will learn from his mistakes. I think Bernard has realised he needs to work hard on his game, his attitude towards the game, his physique and his movement around
the court. That's what's going to help him become a much better player. I would like to think it (Tomic's problems) is a hiccup for him.”
He further added, “He has done well pretty much up to this year and I think he now knows he has a lot to learn. He has gone through a bad time now for various reasons. Hopefully he can get over that and work much harder on his
game and become a better player.”
Tomic faced a lot of issues due to his naive character in the recent times. He is just 20 years of age and requires time to be mature for sure. Last year, he broke the law by driving his Orange BMW at a speed that is not accepted
and was also accused of rash driving, specifically ‘hooning’. He was almost on the verge of getting jailed before the apologies to the policeman and officers lowered the temperature level. During the season, he failed to live up the standards set by him in
2011. He was also booed for his racquet tantrum during the Wimbledon Championships when he was dismissed in the opening round by the wildcard entrant, David Goffin.
The Aussie player contested 56 matches in 2012. He only managed to secure 29 wins and lost 27 of the clashes. The start to the season wasn’t bad at all. He reached the semi-final of the Brisbane International before being dispatched
by the Briton number one, Andy Murray; followed it up with a victory at AAMi Classic in Kooyong and than a fourth round exit at the Australian Open from the hands of none other than the 17-time Grand Slam Champion, Roger Federer.
It seemed another bright season for the Aussie superstar before everything crumbled apart. Tomic failed to win a match in Indian Wells and followed up with another dismal show at Miami; lost in the second round. Monte Carlo and
Barcelona also yielded just a win apiece before Munich allowed the Aussie to grab a couple of victories. Tomic lost seven matches in a row starting from French Open, Gerry Weber Open, AEGON International, Wimbledon, Mercedes Cup, Credit Agricole Suisse Open
and Olympics.
However, there is always a bright day ahead of a dark tunnel and probably 2013 will bring back glory days for the 20-year-old athlete.
