Ross Brawn: 2011 season tough for Mercedes but hopefully Rosberg will stay – Formula 1
Mercedes’ team principal Ross Brawn has stated that although the team is going through a bit of a rough patch in the 2011 Formula 1 season but hopefully the young Nico Rosberg will stick with the team a little longer.
Brawn stated that Nico is losing a bit of faith in the Mercedes team as the first seven races of the season have been somewhat tough on the young German, but still he is needed in the team.
The Mercedes boss further commented that Nico is young and has not gone through much tougher periods, which is why he is getting agitated by a slow and unreliable silver car.
When asked about the fact that he, Michael Schumacher and some old heads in the Mercedes team are calm and composed while Nico is throwing away hope, Brawn stated, “We are not relaxed, and if we look calm it is partly because we have plans, we have things
we are doing. Nico hasn’t gone through as many cycles as I have, that is for sure. If you give up you won’t change it - and we won’t give up.”
Brawn further added, “I guess I am asking for his faith - and asking him what he sees. He has some hundred odd race starts without a win - and he is definitely a driver good enough to win races - so the situation must of course be very frustrating for him.
I am sure it is a frustration for him. He is a very good and fast driver.”
Michael Schumacher has said recently that building a team able to win a championship takes at least five years’ time. Brawn and Pat Fry have been calm over Mercedes’ performance in the 2011 season but Nico has stated on numerous occasions that the team needs
to improve.
The 2011 season continues in Valencia on June 26 and it will be interesting to see how the young mind of Nico gets along with the old heads at Mercedes team.
