Ross Brawn: It would be very strange if Sebastian Vettel does not win 2011 title – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn has said that it will be very strange if the Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel does not win the 2011 Formula 1 season title following his very strong start.
He also said that he must win the season’s championship, as he has a faster and perfect car this year. Brawn praised the performance of Vettel in the ongoing season and admitted that no doubt he is driving fantastically as compared to the 2010 Formula 1
season.
The German has won six out of the eight races so far and finished on the podium in the other two. He is leading the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship with 186 points. The Petronas-sponsored team boss also admitted that Vettel is only the driver who has
a better understanding with the new Pirelli tyres this season.
Apart from that, Brawn discussed the top teams of the ongoing season and said, “I don’t think so. I think most of the top teams are going to lose something, but I don’t think it will be dramatic, and I don’t think it will change the order. All of the top
teams will have been working hard to recover the lost performance.”
He also discussed the performance of his team and admitted that he knows the team’s MGP-W02 car is still not good enough to compete with the strong teams including McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull. The Mercedes team principal further added that they are working
very hard on their car and making it perfect for the rest of the season.
He went on to say, “There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with our car. It’s not a bad car — it’s the fourth fastest in formula one, but that’s not our goal,We need to improve in every area; aero, suspension, the driveability of the engine. We are one second
behind the best.”
Brawn said that the team is satisfied with their current drivers’ line-up and that they believe Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher will impress them at some point in the remaining season.
The ninth round of the 2011 season will commence from July 8, 2011 at the Silverstone circuit.
