Ross Brawn: Mercedes GP better placed to develop 2011 car as compared to last season
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has recently stated that his team is in a better position to develop its 2011 car than it was in the previous season.
“Our ability to react strongly has improved considerably over the past twelve months and we have a robust development plan in place for the season,” he said.
Mercedes finished in 4th place in the constructors’ standings way behind Ferrari in its 2010 run as the team struggled to make its blown diffuser and F-duct to work properly. As a result, Mercedes were unable to compete against the top running
teams and were left way behind statistically.
Nevertheless, Mercedes GP are confident about their 2011 run and believe that they have developed a car that will enable them to compete against the top running teams and run for the titles as well. Ross believes that the team plans to have a smooth 2011
Formula 1 season and perform at its best.
“2011 will be the second season with our drivers, Michael and Nico, and this continuity, together with our well-established relationships, has enabled both the drivers and team to prepare well for the challenges ahead,” said Ross.
He added that the team had a good pre-season testing period and their new car performed up to the expectations. However, he admitted that the season opening race of the new season is going to be quite unpredictable and it is going to be the main test for
all the teams in terms of competitiveness.
Red Bull Racing Team and Ferrari also performed well during the pre-season test sessions and as a result, it is believed that both of these teams are going to be the favourites for the season opening race of 2011 in Australia that is scheduled to take place
on 27 March.
On the other hand, McLaren had a very disappointing pre-season testing period but the team is hoping of getting everything back together before the season opening race.
Nevertheless, Mercedes GP are going to be one of the brightest teams in Australia as all the fans are going to keep an eye out for them throughout the race weekend.
Michael Schumacher is pleased with the new car his team came up with and it is going to be interesting to see how they perform at the first race of the new season as compared to the top running teams of the sport.
