Ross Brawn: Mercedes GP gave very solid performance in Q3 of Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has admitted that his team drivers, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher showed a very strong performance in the qualifying round of the Canadian Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that the new Pirelli tyres did a great job during the qualifying session of the Montreal Grand Prix. After a successful Saturday session on supersoft tyres, the team is expecting more improvement on the new options for the race day.
After the qualifying round in Montreal, Mercedes motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug said, “With two runs in Q3, we might have been able to climb a position or two on the grid. However, a fresh set of tyres for tomorrow will be even more beneficial –
if the race stays dry, of course.”
The team drivers Rosberg and Schumacher secured the sixth and eighth places for the race respectively in Q3.
Mercedes driver Rosberg has said that he is quite confident about the Sunday race, after securing his sixth place on the starting grid. He added that he was very hopeful that the new Pirelli tyres will provide them a supportive run at the Canadian Grand
Prix.
The German also discussed the last Monaco race and mentioned that the team learnt many positive things during the last race weekend, which he will try to show on Sunday.
On the other hand, his teammate Schumacher took a very strong start to the Montreal race weekend, as he successfully finished his Friday practice sessions among the strong rivals. He participated in qualifying session of the Canadian race weekend with hopes
of securing a pole place. However, due to some mechanical problems in his MGP-W02 car during the Q3, he could not do that.
The seven-time world champion added, “We will have to analyse why that happened, but all went pretty well other than that. We have developed our set-up in the right direction over the weekend, and the long runs looked quite good this morning, so we should
be OK in the race.”
After a successful qualifying round in Canada, Mercedes are focusing on how to get impressive results from the race on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Let’s see how they can manage that.
