Ross Brawn: Mercedes to discuss 2012 Formula 1 season contract with Schumacher later in 2011
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has said that the team will discuss its 2012 Formula 1 contract with Michael Schumacher later in 2011.
Brawn mentioned that he has a three-year deal with his current team and he expected the German to complete his contract.
The team boss admitted that they are satisfied with him. In addition, he said that the 42-year-old driver is an important part of the Mercedes GP team and that he believes Schumacher will make progress for them in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Brawn said, “But if he feels that he doesn't want to do it anymore, then we need to talk about it. You can't force somebody to do something.”
He discussed the team’s current driver line-up comprising of Nico Rosberg and Schumacher. He added that the Petronas-sponsored team is satisfied with both of their drivers and wants to work together beyond the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Apart from that, the Mercedes boss mentioned that Rosberg is the best teammate of Schumacher and that his performance in the ongoing season is quite impressive.
He went on to say, “Sometimes it's like the young Michael Schumacher is standing before me. He goes about his job with an incredible intensity, he has no emotional weaknesses and is incredibly talented. Perhaps the situation would be a little easier for
Michael if he had a team-mate who was not so incredibly strong. But both can learn many things from each other, and everyone is up to the challenge.”
According to Rosberg, he wants to stay with Mercedes for a long time, as he is quite happy with them. The German believes that he can make his future bright in Formula 1 sport through this platform.
In the recently held British Grand Prix, the 26-year-old driver showed a better performance on the grid. He finished his race at the sixth place in Silverstone following his disappointing Canadian and European grands prix.
The upcoming German Grand Prix is scheduled to be held on July 24, 2011 in Nurburgring. Let’s see how both the Mercedes drivers fare in it.
