Ross Brawn believes Mercedes have struggled due to double-DRS – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they have unfortunately struggled in few races of the 2012 Formula 1 season because of their double-DRS.
Brawn said that they have focussed too much on their novel design of double-DRS which has not provided the expected results and they have failed to score competitive points in the season so far.
Although, he said that they were quite confident about their innovative layout and had worked really hard for it. However, he believes that they shouldn’t have pursued their development process concerning the double-DRS as they have not been able to get
the required results.
“Yes,” said the Briton. “One of the conclusions we have reached is that while the double DRS was valid, it held us back in other areas.”
“Today there is a lot of, let’s say, smart technology around the front wings. But we had our system, and our wings were designed around this concept,” he said. “When it became clear from what others were doing what the potential was of another philosophy,
maybe we should have taken a step back.”
It will be important to mention that their drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg have faced a lot of technical problems and tyre management issues in the season until now due to which they have not achieved much.
Nevertheless, they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to perform well in the last two rounds of the ongoing season in order to secure good positions in the championship fight.
Additionally, it will be important to mention that the seven-time world champion has decided to take retirement at the end of the season and Lewis Hamilton, who is currently in McLaren, will join the Silver Arrows in the next year.
Besides, Brawn has said that they are eying to come up stronger in the coming year and are making the necessary advancement in their car.
“As you say, there are some ‘structural’ considerations that we have seen this year,” he added, “but this will disappear next year — or should disappear.”
Let’s see how they show up in the next season with Hamilton and Rosberg.
