Ross Brawn confident about the legality of Mercedes F-duct design – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG team principal, Ross Brawn says that he has nothing to do with the recent FIA enquiries regarding the legitimacy of W03’s novel F-duct while he said that he is confident about its lawfulness.
The Brackley-based team has been facing immense criticism on the issue of DRS-activated F-duct’s legality, especially from the teams which include Red Bull Racing and Lotus.
Eric Boullier, the team principal of Lotus threatened to challenge the result of qualifying in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia over the legitimacy of F-duct. However, Charlie Whiting, F1 race director declared it to be legal
later.
Nevertheless, Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull has been continuously raising questions about the compliance of F-duct device with the rules and regulations of FIA and asking for further clarifications from the governing body.
Moreover, Horner is expecting that Whiting will give it a look ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012.
Conversely, Brawn has said that they are receiving critical remarks just because the innovative design is very hard to integrate into the existing cars regardless of its being simple and inexpensive.
“It is a very simple cheap system, but not so easy to implement if you haven't integrated it into your car,” said Brawn.
He also said that he is not bothered by the latest examination of FIA regarding the F-duct device before the third race in China as he is certain about its conformity with the regulations.
“We are confident the system is legal. As far back as 2010, in working group meetings, the FIA was stating that it considered such a system to be legal, because they were questioned on it as a matter of record,” said the Mercedes team boss. “We will obviously
be extremely disappointed once someone took a different view, but I think the FIA has been fairly consistent in their position, so we have faith that they will maintain that consistency.”
Additionally, Brawn said that they are focusing on making the necessary improvements for the races ahead.
