Ross Brawn denies rumours that he might quit Team Mercedes
Mercedes’ team Principal Ross Brawn has rubbished rumours suggesting he might retire from the sport this year. Brawn underlined his commitment to Mercedes by saying that he will not resign until the team is successful.
Team Mercedes had an extremely disappointing season in 2010. Mercedes joined Formula One as 'Brawn GP' in 2009, and the team shocked the whole world by winning both the drivers’ and constructors titles in their very first season in the sport.
The team had Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello as their two drivers and since the team came up with the best car on the 2009 Formula One grid, both drivers performed at their best and proved that they had what it takes to win races and secure titles.
However, after the 2009 Formula One season, Jenson Button joined McLaren Mercedes while Rubens Barrichello joined Williams. Brawn GP changed its name to Team Mercedes for the 2010 Formula One season and signed Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. Michael departed from the sport in 2006 but decided to return in his old friend Ross Brawn’s team in 2010.
Brawn was one of the main reasons behind Brawn GP’s success in 2009, and the similarly the Mercedes team could not have functioned as efficiently as it is working right now.
Brawn said, “Today circumstances are different. In 2008 we had 750 workers at Brackley and hundreds in Japan at Honda. We don't have that anymore. It's true that we started the development of the 2011 car early, but that doesn't mean we have therefore put in more resources than the three teams ahead of us.”
Ross Brawn is credited for Michael Schumacher’s success during his time in Benetton and Ferrari, as the German won all seven of his titles with Ross by his side. Since he led a team to win both constructors and drivers’ titles in its debut season, he has proved that he stands out from the rest of the team bosses in the sport.
Ross said, “We won't experience this fairytale of 2009 for a second time. But I'm sure we'll have a very good car. We'll only know how good when we drive it. If it's as good as we think it is, then we've also the organisation in the back to develop it during the season.”
Nevertheless, Brawn will not rest until Mercedes is back to the top and it seems that his team is quite confident about the 2011 season.
