Ross Brawn describes Schumacher’s Canadian Grand Prix performance as ‘vintage’ – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has described Michael Schumacher’s performance in recently held Canadian Grand Prix as ‘vintage.’
He also mentioned that Schumacher’s fourth finish in the Montreal race weekend was a big surprise for the team, as he showed his best performance on the Canadian grid following his disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Brawn discussed the 42-year-old driver’s performance and mentioned, “I wouldn't say (it's) a breakthrough because that's too strong a word. But there have always been some niggling reasons why Michael's not had the best opportunities to demonstrate what
he can do.”
The team boss went on to add, “He's had the odd 'mare of a race, which every racing driver does, but of course when he has one it tends to get focused on. But there have been lots of races where his times in the races have been pretty comparable with Nico
[Rosberg] but they've not reflected in final results.”
The seven-time world champion had a disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he failed to deliver his best performance among the strong contenders.
In the recently held Montreal race weekend, he took a strong start and finished his Friday practice sessions on the grid in a decent manner. He showed impressive performance during the qualifying round and took part in the race with hopes of getting a podium
position. The German seemed to be struggling for his best place finish since the start of the race but finally ended up at the fourth place for the team.
The Petronas-sponsored team boss explained about Schumacher that he is very experienced as well as a confident driver in Formula 1. Therefore, he said they are confident that he will make more improvements in his run in the remainder of the 2011 Formula
1 season.
He further added that the Mercedes driver made a positive step towards the team’s success and that now he is moving in the right direction.
Brawn told the media that the main thing for getting better results from the team was that they need to provide them a perfect Formula 1 Mercedes car. He believes if they give the quickest car to their struggling driver, then he will definitely give them
better results.
The eighth round of this season will take place in Valencia on June 26, 2011.
