Ross Brawn hopeful of providing Lewis Hamilton with a winning car – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn, has stated that the team will try its best to provide a competitive car to former McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, who is replacing the retiring Michael Schumacher in 2013.
“Obviously we're working very hard to give both him and Nico [Rosberg] the opportunity to win and take pole positions. That's our ambition, our objective,” Brawn said. “It's obviously critical we improve from where we are. We're going to try [even] if we
don't hit all our objectives next year. You never know what other people will do. I'd like to think we can do a few things of those things next year.”
Brawn was replying to the concerns admitted by Hamilton about not winning races for some time due to the poor form of the Mercedes team. Brawn said that he thinks Hamilton was only stating the facts but is still determined enough to win races and secure
pole positions. The team principal added that it is very exciting for the team that they were able to welcome a championship-winning driver into their time given their recent performance. He said that working with Hamilton will be different as compared to
Schumacher.
Since Hamilton is in contract with the McLaren team until the end of this year, it is not possible for him to work with his new team yet. However, Brawn said that it will not be a problem as surely a new team member needs to develop an understanding of the
car and a relationship with the engineers but that can still be done in January.
Hamilton had announced the transfer in September this year and Schumacher announced his retirement from F1 soon after. Mercedes has signed on Hamilton for the next three years.
The British driver had a good pace this season but his progress was constantly hindered by the reliability issues faced by McLaren so that he had to become the victim of several retirements. Hamilton had been working with McLaren since he was eleven years
old and the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has admitted that it is certainly sad to see him leave.
