Ross Brawn insists Mercedes must improve W04’s reliability – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they need to resolve the reliability issues of their car, W04 in order to compete well with their rivals in the season ahead.
The Brackley based team made some significant advancement in this year’s pre-season testing programming after struggling with some huge technical issues in 2012. Moreover, their driver, Lewis Hamilton has performed admirably well behind the wheel of his
car and has managed to score some competitive points for his team.
On the other hand, Hamilton’s teammate, Nico Rosberg has unfortunately retired in two out of first three rounds of the season because of some technical problems in his car. In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, the German driver faced an
electrical issue due to which he could not race. Then, in the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit, he could not complete the race as his rear anti-roll bar was broken.
Rosberg has only been able to score six points in the season so far which he secured with his 4th place finish in the second race at Sepang International Circuit.
Brawn has said that although they are quite happy with their performance in the first three grands prix. However, he insisted that they still have a lot of work to do to attain better results in the season ahead. He asserted that they have to improve their
car’s reliability to match its pace with their rivals’ cars so as to make their position stronger in this year’s championship.
“The performances so far have been pleasing and perhaps even beyond our pre-season expectations however there is work to be done,” he said. “We have two main areas to focus on; we must improve the reliability and we have to lift our performance to find that
extra couple of tenths to our fastest competitors. And of course, that's a moving target to make the challenge even tougher.”
“A strong two car finish will be our target this weekend [in Bahrain], and we want to see both Nico and Lewis [Hamilton] in a position to score not only points but podiums regularly,” he added.
