Ross Brawn insists Mercedes’ optimism for 2013 is well justified – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that their hopefulness to come up stronger in the 2013 Formula 1 season is very well justified despite their unfortunate performance in 2012.
The Brackley based team had quite an effective pre-season testing programme this year as they efficiently managed to test run their car before the season opener as compared to the last year.
Furthermore, they took a promising start as their driver, Nico Rosberg successfully claimed his maiden victory in the Chinese Grand Prix after securing his first ever pole position.
However, the Silver Arrows failed to carry on their development plan effectively and Rosberg and his teammate, Michael Schumacher struggled with many technical and tyre management issues which hindered their performance in most of the grands prix.
Even though, the seven-time world champion secured an impressive third podium finish in the European GP, but he failed to score points on consistent basis because of the reliability issues in his car.
There are many speculations which are stating that the Brackley based team may face the same problems in the next season too even with their changed driver line-up which include Lewis Hamilton as Schumacher’s replacement.
Nonetheless, Brawn has asserted that they are confidently looking forward to make the necessary developments in their car during the winter testing and are aiming to attain competitive results right from the start of the coming season so as to secure better
position in the next year’s championship.
“We created a car that was reasonable this year, but we didn't keep it progressing strongly enough,” Brawn told AUTOSPORT. “It's something we're addressing and we're putting in place the processes to ensure we can follow-up a good car and keep it at the
front for the whole season.”
“Twelve months ago we recognised we needed to strengthen the organisation, and we had Aldo Drudi and Geoff Willis joining this summer. We had further additions. We upgraded the wind tunnel and improved the facilities. The new car has been progressing well,”
he said.
“I think we've got some well justified optimism that we're going to be better next year,” he added.
