Ross Brawn insists his position at Mercedes was never at risk – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that his team has been very supportive to him throughout the case of their Pirelli tyre test and insisted that his position was never at risk.
Brawn had to appear before the FIA’s International Tribunal last week so as to defend the stance of the Brackley based squad on the Pirelli tyre test issue. Before the hearing, his position in the team was largely questioned by the rivals and there were
many speculations that he might have to leave the Silver Arrows. However, he has asserted that he is completely backed by his team which has been very supportive to him throughout the trial.
“To be honest it's never been discussed, so the situation hasn't changed,” he told Sky Sports. “You never know what might happen if the outcome of the tribunal had been different and I'm an employee and member of the team, so things can change.”
“But the board have been very supportive in this matter. For them it was also very important that the issue of good faith was established and they've been very supportive and been aware of all the facts behind what has happened. I couldn't have asked for
more support from them,” he added.
It is to be noted that Mercedes have been reprimanded for their secret testing with Pirelli and will be forced by the FIA to skip the Young Driver Test, which is to be held later in this month, as they were found guilty.
The 58-year-old has said that the penalty from the FIA is quite severe and the missing of the upcoming test will definitely result in huge loss as they had some big plans to make some essential step-ups in their car to perform well in the season ahead. Nevertheless,
he stated that they are still aiming to perform well in the forthcoming races.
Presently, the British squad are standing at 3rd place in the constructors’ championship with 134 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Lotus and behind their main rival, Ferrari. Let’s see how they show up in the British Grand Prix on June 30, 2013.
