Ross Brawn once again happy with his decisions
Finally, the Mercedes GP team Principal Ross Brawn is happy with the team’s car. He believes that his decision of stopping the development work on his car quite early this year has proved very good for the team. This has given them time
not only to concentrate on their 2011 car, but has also helped them perfect the up-gradations of this year that were initially carried out in a hurry.
The winner of both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship of last year ‘Brawn GP’, converted into ‘Mercedes GP’ at the start of this year. The hype and fanfare of the team for being the best team of last season was further coupled with the
addition of the seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher. However, neither the driver nor the team was able to live up to the expectations. Moreover, the far sighted vision of Brawn soon detected that both the championships are off their reach now, hence
the team was the first one to halt progress on their 2010 car and shifted all their attention towards the next year’ s car.
This firstly raised their hope of making a very competitive 2011 car and coming back with a big roar while secondly this decision also helped them refine the developments that they had already made in their current car. Now, as the season reaches its last
twists and turns, the team principal seems pretty happy with his timely decision.
Since the Belgian Grand Prix held in August, the team has always been successful to place at least one of its cars in the top six positions. With this, they had been close behind the top contenders of the season Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren.
Now, as Brawn looks back at the past few months he was happy to exclaim that although nothing new had been introduced on the Mercedes car for a long time yet the team car is much better than it was a little time back.
The German racer, Schumacher has two of the best finishes of the season last month at the Japanese Grand Prix and later at the Korean Grand Prix. In Japan, the racer ended at 6th place while the last race in Korea saw him flee marvellously at
the rainy track to finish at 4th place.
On the other hand, the other team driver, Nico Rosberg also had some great finishes in the last few races. This year he has been able to finish thrice on the podium and has bagged a total of 122 points so far.
Answering the reporters after the 4th place finish of Schumacher in Korea, Brawn said that nothing had been introduced in the team car in a long while rather they have just given the finishing touches to the up-gradations brought earlier this
year.
The team principal proclaimed, "The car is as it has been for the last few races. We've come to terms with the F-duct and it's working quite well. It's nothing new, but the guys have done a good job of setting it up and finding the right balance... You do
consolidate what you have, and the drivers now know which bits to change to get it how they want it - and that in itself is worth lap time.”
He believes that the better performance of the car in the last two races has given the team an impetus at a very good time as this season is about to finish and now they will enter the next one with more confidence. "We're clearly not where we want to be,
but it's not a disaster, and I think the consolidation over the last few races just shows the [potential of] car that we have," Brawn said conclusively.
