Ross Brawn plays down speculations about Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has played down the speculations about McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton’s move to their team as a potential replacement of Michael Schumacher in 2013.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to end at the conclusion of this season and there have been a lot of rumours that he is not willing to renew his agreement. Moreover, the Briton has been linked with the Brackley based team as a probable
replacement of the seven-time world champion who according to many reports will leave the sport as a racing driver after this year.
Meanwhile, the British squad has raised their offer to their driver so as to counter the bid of the Silver Arrows. However, the 2008 world champion has not expressed anything about his future plans and has asserted that he is currently focussing to perform
well in the remainder of this season to make his mark stronger in the title fight.
On the other hand, Brawn has underplayed the ongoing reports regarding Hamilton’s shift in their squad but has not refused that they were in conversation with him.
“Any ambitious team looks at the top drivers and we're an ambitious team, but I think there's an awful lot of speculation,” Brawn said. “We will have some things to say in next few weeks, next few months, and then all will become clear.”
In addition, he said that the 27-year-old driver has got an amazing talent but they are still evaluating their options for the next year’s driver line-up.
Furthermore, he said that the record championship holder has contributed a lot towards the development of the team for which they are extremely thankful to him. Besides, he said that presently, they are also having conversations with the veteran German driver
about his future in the team.
“He's a very good driver. A very good driver. [It is] still under discussion, I'm afraid. I can't comment very much on that, but Michael's been huge asset to team. He's really taken us forward. I do think Michael contributes an awful lot, so I think decision
for Michael to stay or not continue is a difficult one,” he added.
